Answer by alexwassupyo
What you are talking about is sometimes called a wireless freenet or community wireless network. Several projects exist with similar goals and in the spirit of openness, they have documented the tools and equipment they have used. A good aggregator exists at http://www.communitywireless.org/.

What is the best USB Wireless Internet Card to buy (through cell signal)?

What I want out of it is:
Use Skype (VoIP)
Use in Europe and in U.S.
use on Mac OS X
What do you recommend?

Answer by FunFred
Sprint’s 3G card. It is really fast (almost like their name…). Also, Sprint is pretty cheap.

However, if you already have a cell phone, it might be cheaper to add one of these to your current plan (with all of the cross-promotions and stuff).

I can’t give you a direct link (it requires a ZIP code), but if you go to Sprint’s site and click on Mobile Broadband Cards, you will find it.

How do I use my Tivo with voip (wireless) without installing a router?

I have Tivo service and I don’t want to install a router. I have VOIP through wireless internet provider. What cable or equipment would I need to plug my tivo into something & dial up via voip? I have not seen an internet phone with an extra rj11 hook-up.
I have tried manually dialing the tivo #, but I can’t get the 2 modems in synch with each other over the VOIP connection, any suggestions?

Answer by BScottyD
This wont work. I use Packet8 VOIP and I tried this. The Tivo DVR uses an analog modem and cannot connect over a digital VOIP connection.

how can i get my avaya wireless card to recognize my westell router?

i found a computer with avaya wireless card and i want to connect it to my wireless router in my house how should i go about doing this?

Answer by hustler.connection
ok the the first thing i would do is check to see if the card is installed correctly, you can do this by right clicking My Computer icon on your desktop, from the menu, select properties, now you should see the system properties box, Select the hardware tap, then click the button that says, “Device Manager” this will open the manager.
Scroll down untill you see “Network adapters” its close to the bottom of the list click the + find the wireless card, right click & open the properties, & look for Device Status, If it works it should say This device is working properly.

The Good Stuff.

Now To Set Up The Connection.

Click Start, Control Panel, Network Connections, Find The Network Card, Mine Says “Wireless Network Connection”
From There, You Right Click, View Available Wireless Networks, Select Your Network, Click Connect,

This Is For XP, It Will Be Slightly Different On Other OS

If you don’t get anything in your available networks or it says windows isn’t in control of your wireless settings, right click your wireless card click properties, then click the Wireless Networks tab, then put a check in the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings…

hope that helps

Japan Enterprise VoIP Equipment and Device 2008-2012 Forecast and Second Half 2007 Analysis and Wireless VoIP Solution Trend Analysis

This IDC study, which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8240106, presents an analysis of the enterprise VoIP equipment market in 2H07, forecasts from 2008 to 2012, as well as trends of wireless VoIP solutions. The enterprise VoIP equipment market leveled off and slowed down in 2H07. However, IDC forecasts that the enterprise VoIP equipment market, including the IP key telephone system market, will grow steadily and gradually throughout the forecast period.

“In order for the enterprise VoIP equipment market to maintain the forecast growth rate, vendors and sales channels should strengthen the sales channels for SMBs, develop mobile applications, and work on security and environment compatibility of VoIP equipment,” says Takashi Manabe, research manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
