Android comes to landline phones
At CeBIT this week, Motorola demonstrated an Android-based “HS1001″ cordless IP phone manufactured by Binatone and built around the DSP Group’s DECT-compatible XpandR chipset. Meanwhile, DSP Group showed its own Android-based IP phone reference design based on the XpandR II chipset.

I am looking for a new landline phone and it would be super useful to be able to check my answering machine messages (voice mail) from the internet. My work has VOIP phones that email me my phone messages when they are received and I wish I can find something somewhat similar for my landline. I would also need to get a 2 line system and hopefully the phone would be a DECT 6.0 phone so that it doesn’t screw up my wireless router. Bluetooth connectivity for cell phone would be icing on the cake. Thank you.

What will you do if there is an emergency and need 911 assistance? Do you have any back up plan?
I’m shopping for VOIP phone but still hesitant because of the lack of 911 assistance. I like Skype and would like to try it as a home phone but want to know how others deal with this issue.
Also anyone use wifi phone for Skype? I wouldn’t want to attach to my computer when I receive or call out. What is the reception or call quality? Thanks for any input.
Roger, thanks for Magicjack info. I just checked it out and I’m interested in trying that out. However I didn’t find the info on whether you can receive phone calls with it? The website says I get local phone number and caller ID and all but it didn’t say that I can receive the phone call. Also does the phone needs to be connected to the computer to get the phone call? If it wasn’t connected, would it go to voice mail? Thanks.
Roger, what do you mean by you will not be affected by power outage? What kind of power back up do you have?

I am trying to find out if it is possible to connect a standard telephone with standard landline service to a pc and talk through a pc headset instead of the standard landline handset.
The reason being:
I am trying to find a way to answer the phone with my standard company greeting, instead of physically saying it each time I answer the phone. So if you know of another way of applying a standard telephone greeting, I would be interested in that also.
I would also like to use the system to for making calls by announcing the company name and who I am when making phone calls, and then I can start speaking after the repetitive intro is complete.
Thanks for your help.

I am set to start a new job working from home and she asked me if I had a landline phone. I currently have VOIP through my cable provider and I love it! Is there anyway that they will be able to tell if I am using the VOIP instead of a landline phone? I only need to use it until 2 weeks from now. That is when the landline phone will be installed.
I will be taking inbound customer service calls. I just want to know if they will know.

I know there’s this gadget (magicjack.com) that can save a LOT of money, but can this really replace your landline or VOIP phone?
I think it comes kind of close, but your PC and broadband device needs to be on 24/7.
What do you think? Any experience or opinion?

Just wanted to do a little comparison, I had both of them and I think Landline sounds clearer, and it works when the power goes out. Then there’s VOIP which saves you a lot of money and gives you all the calling features, but the sound quality isn’t as clear as landline. Also VOIP will not work when the power goes out. Overall, which is considered to be more reliable?
