Solution:
#1: Skype
#2: Vonage
#3: Any VoIP provider capable of handling multiple connections – as a kicker, lets add video!
If you we’re convinced that CO2 was both the primary cause of global warming and the certain end to our civilization w/in a relatively short amount of time (100’s or 1000’s of years) — would you knowingly contribute to the problem by traveling all over the world in your private jet w/ your entire entourage if other forms of communication, which are just as effective, were available to you?
Is throwing more gas on the flames the first step in extinguishing the fire?
Does buying carbon credits really remove one’s individual responsibility — furthermore, what’s the turnaround for reducing that carbon footprint? If I plant 4,550 trees (1 tree for 10 tons of CO2), how long will it take to remove/process those 45,500 tons of CO2?
Assuming the turnaround was desirable (within context), call it 3-6 years, what leverage does that put on our already scarce water supply?
Do you think any of the attendees suggested teleconferencing?
“I’m sure you zealots would love to shut down climate science and policy discussion. For the record, there are about 30,000,000,000 tons of CO2 emitted each year. Do the math.”
I’d actually want to bring climate SCIENCE back to the main stage.
At 2% being the annual anthropogenic contribution of CO2 = 600,000,000 tons of CO2 directly by people. (30,000,000,000 x 0.02)
Assuming 30,000,000,000 is the world figure first (since you didn’t specify):
Current World Population: 6,969,000,000,000
Simple math:
6.0×10^8/6.969×10^12 =
Avg. 0.0000861 tons CO2 per person per year.
Assuming U.S. contribution is 30,000,000,000
Simple Math:
6.0×10^8/3.2×10^8 =
Avg. 1.875 tons of CO2 per person per year
If you’re numbers are correct, Energy Star (Government entity) is lying as they claim 25 tons per person per year in the U.S. Check any carbon footprint website that touts that number.
It’s merely another testament to the inconsistencies found in the marketing of AGW.
Princess: CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that’s been established. As to how the environment responds with relatively small increases in CO2, we’re not exactly sure as all of the variables regulating the climate aren’t fully understood. The question regarding AGW is whether the human contribution of CO2 changes our climate. It’s an interesting topic worth exploring as the worst case scenario puts us closer to understanding our surrounding world and aims to shine a spotlight on pollution. However, science driven by political/economic policy or over-reaching assumptions/inferences isn’t an acceptable methodology to attain the ends…that’s the problem I have with the tone of the discussion.
Thanks for the answer — you’re right that CO2 is part of the photosynthesis process and increased concentrations could lead to more rapid growth in plants…assuming water is an abundant resource? Lots to think about.
Bucket — you’re talking about 8% instead of 2%. The numbers still don’t add up. Natural expulsion of CO2 is approx. 250+ Gigatons. In that, the anthropogenic contribution is a FRACTION of the total number. There’s nothing political in discrediting cold hard numbers.
Consequently, 45,500 tons of CO2 is still 45,500 tons of CO2 at the end of the day. Interesting your panties get bunched up if I drive my car 2 blocks for a haircut but 45,500 TONS of CO2 for a POLITICAL conference that could be arranged on the internet has you on their side. An unyielding faith doesn’t make it anymore scientific.
On a sidebar – Russia just dropped the bomb that CRU folks have been picking and choosing their data sets for the models you embrace. Incomplete data sets were chosen over complete ones — urban temp. readings taken over suburban temps. Temps to the contrary were weeded out. I guess these “scientific” methodologies must be embraced when “the IPCC comes in for a lot of stick.”

Hi,
I’m designing a IM client that use Jabber to communicate with a Jabber server. It also has a Jingle communication tool that enables the users to talk with each other ( PC2PC calls ).
Now I want to add PC2Phone and Phone2PC capabilities to my system. As for PC2Phone I think it only requres a contract with a VOIP provider and some code writing to enable that, but as for Phone2PC, I think I need some special hardwares. This means that for example when you call a phone number that is assigned to a user, his/her IM client will ring, so that he/she can pick it up and answers online! If he’s away, teh caller will leave a message. This is like how Yahoo Voice workd ( voice.yahoo.com ). If anyone has such experience please share here and help me in this regard.
Thanks
