My Voip software is connecting fine, but when I do a call, after 20 sec is disconecting and says that…?

“Call ended cause you logged off”, but I didin’t touch even a button. But the problem is that I change my provider, earlier I could make any call in any destination, and now I can’t. I think it’s provider lock, I have a usb modem with a phone card in. An I asked theme if the modem supports voip calls and they answered that supports. But till now I cannot make calls. I tried to turn off my firewall and the same result. Help me to resolve this problem. Thank you a lot! The provider is TMN, Portugal!

Conneting two phone lines, and be able to call into line 1 and get a dial tone on line 2 after entering a code

Hi,

I have two lines at home. One is my regular line and the other is a Voip line. Now, since I’m able to make international calls using the Voip line for a fixed monthly rate, I would love to take advantage from it even when I’m not home.

I was thinking about having a device that will connect to both my regular (POTS) line and my Voip line. I would call in to my regular line from wherever I wish, and upon entering an agreed upon password get a dial tone on my Voip, giving me the ability to call international using my Voip monthly fixed rate.

Please note: I believe that I can use a Voip adapter so that the Voip line can be treated like a regular phone as well.

I’m not sure exactly what I’m looking for, although I know that there is the option of running a dedicated computer with Asterisk, for example, as a PBX. Well, first, I’m tottaly not familiar with Asterisk and PBXs in general. Second, I would like this device to be much smaller that a PC.

I would deeply appreciate any help.

Magic Jack will not help you after purchase. We should keep the order lines busy and buy nothing, until better

I have tried the chat link, telephone numbers found on the web. I cannot get a live person. The answers they give on the site will not get the thing working again. I requested my password to get in members area to no avail. Any suggetions? Sure we could jam there avenues of getting new customers and not purchase anything, discourage new customers by telling the truth, but I’d rather they stand behind the product. Has anyone been able to take advantage of the second year deal? Has anyone else found that they could contact the company fine until the trial period was over? The chat link just goes in circles. Also, does anyone know how to get the thing up after a reformat. MJ suggested (in FAQs) a reformat and download, that did not work. You get what you pay for is to be expected. So I tolerated sometimes on sometimes off, crossing with my other voip etc… But they advertise in a way that makes you believe it will work for at least 1 year. Anyone else find that not to be so?
Ok. After searching the net forever I finally found 2 links that fixed the problem of the thing not “booting up.” No help from MJ in that area. However, now when the softphone comes up it says my MJ is already activated and asks for my email or phone # and password. When I request password info from MJ website, I’m told info is sent to my email addy. Over and over again. Days now and still no response. So I must say, the device itself is still usable. The customer service is really the problem for me. They have a refer a friend button on there site. Did you use that C.S ?
By the way thanks Roger for trying to help me solve my problem. I did try makinga MJ logon account, but that was b4 the links helped me get it working. Seems if I was sent my password info (I’ve never had to login at MJ) I’d be OK. I actually used it as a second phone for the kids. I use Vonage for myself.

Is it safe to cancel land line service after you get VoIP?

I’m thinking about buying a VoIP phone from Cisco, but it’s $300. I’ve got decent internet so i think voice should be just fine. So yeah, I’m thinking about canceling land line after i get that phone. Is this a good idea because I don’t want to pay for land line anymore because I don’t get a lot of calls. I also found this USB device that has a phone jack on the other end and the box says that I could use this as a phone jack over the internet for 20 bucks. Should I use that instead, but I’d have to leave my computer running 24/7.

Since I’m sort of new to how VoIP phones work, can someone briefly describe the advantages vs disadvantages to having a VoIP device. I already know VoIP is Voice over IP but I’m not completely sure on whether or not should i invest on a device.

How to make fax machine work after switched from hardline phone to a VOIP phone service?

After I switched from AT&T hardline phone (PSTN) to iTalkBB Internet phone (VOIP) service, my same voice phone works just fine while my same fax machine does not. My Internet Service Provider (ISP) is Road Runner – a Time Warner Cable division. They give me a Motorola cable modem with one Ethernet port (RJ45) which I used for my D-Link router. All my two computers and two VOIP boxes, one for phone and one for fax with different phone number, are behind the router.

According to my VOIP provider’s advice, I’ve tried to slow down transmission speed (on fax machine) from the default 33.6 (mbps) to 9600 baud and turned off ECM. So far I can send out faxes to some numbers but not all numbers, and could not receive any fax including the very fax machine that received my fax.

My VOIP provider then suggested me to hook up the VOIP box directly to the cable modem so it has its own internet connection. I tried that by taking off the router from the cable modem and just plug in the fax VOIP box to the cable modem. It dose not work – did not even get the dial tong – either with regular patch cable or a crossover cable. Time Warner Cable told me that they do have two port cable modem but only give to me when I subscript to their digital phone (VOIP). However, their price is 8 times higher than iTalkBB ($40 vs $5 per month). I tried to find a cable modem with more than one Ethernet port. I could not find any in three major electronic stores as Best Buy, Circuit City, and Micro Center.

I am now thinking to roll back my fax line to AT&T for a basic plan cost $15+tax=$20 per month. That way I will be sure it works – it’s a hardline.

Somebody on Iinternet advised me to wait for the undergoing Fax Over Internet Protocol (FOIP). But I don’t know where this baby is – if any. On the other side of the story, somebody on Internet stated that he switched to VOIP, and his fax machine works flawlessly ever since for a year so far. My line condition is no comparison to his, but I did make some improvement – half way so far.

Is there anybody has a clue or suggestions please help me out. Many thanks!

voip buster disconnects after about 1 minute?

I use VOIP Buster to call destinations around the world for cheap or
free calls, but it keeps disconnecting me in middle of the calls.

There are no other problems with the system, no delays and it has great
voice quality.

My friend with same internet connection and same city haven’t got this
problem.

My modem is U.S Robotics 9107 4 Port Modem, All ports mentioned on the
VOIP Buster FAQ are forwarded, also allowed them in my firewall
software (Zone Alarm).

I tried turning off Zone Alarm and doing DMZ for the router, but it
still has the same problem.
