As I am looking to build or buy a new home, I started planning a home computing system for the house from scratch. What I have in my head is some beefy server and cheap workstations (graphical diskless thin-clients) throughout the house. I have read some up on the Linux Terminal Server Project and envisioned an amazing system possibly involving intercom (VoIP), home chat, controlled web access (I have kids), Myth TV, word processing, presentation and central fax & print. The software seems to be there for the right price. The hardware is another story. I have not been able to put together this architecture cheaper than just buying and networking full fledged Windows systems for each room. Isn’t there supposed to be a cost savings with this architecture? Am I after a 2001 dream that everyone else knows has already failed? I am tired of spyware and viruses and updating multiple systems with various patches. Is it going to cost more for less?

I have normal phone line and a VOIP line. I am trying to use two different 5.8 GHZ cordless phones. But since I started doing this I am not receiving calls on my normal line.
I called the phone company and they say that it must be in my wiring and they will send somebody out. But I do not think that it is my wiring.
Please help!!!!
How would you check the channels that they are on?

Okay, so now we are back here, “what is a blog” has been asked yet once again and there are also several more (legitimate) repeat questions floating around, like questions about the iPod and VOIP software. So, we need either a commonly asked questions section or something like a built-in search that when you ask a similar question you will get “similar question found, this might be what you are looking for”, something like that. And don’t get me started on the “what is the best….” thing, there is NO best, there IS a BEST for you but we can’t tell you that when youd don’t give details on what you are looking for.
Sorry for the rant but, there really is no BEST TV, there is no BEST camera or anything else, it depends on what you are looking for.
I am also aware of the possible irony that this too has been asked before…
